Chaotic temperature dependence at zero temperature

چکیده
We present a class of examples of nearest-neighbour, bounded-spin models, in which the low-temperature Gibbs measures do not converge as the temperature is lowered to zero, in any dimension.

Anomalous temperature dependence of the supercurrent through a chaotic Josephson junction
We calculate the supercurrent through a Josephson junction consisting of a phase-coherent metal particle (quantum dot), weakly coupled to two superconductors. The classical motion in the quantum dot is assumed to be chaotic on time scales greater than the ergodic time τerg, which itself is much smaller than the mean dwell time τdwell. The excitation spectrum of the Josephson junction has a gap ...
متن کاملMeasurement and comparison of the temperature-dependence of refractive index of water and Plexiglas phantoms by interferometry method for their use in optical calorimetry
In radiation calorimetry by using laser beams and interferometry setups, variations induced by dose absorption in phantom can be precisely measured. Dose absorption and the induced temperature change result in refractive index variation of the material. In order to be able to measure the low amount of absorbed dose in the phantom, temperature dependence of refractive index of the material must ...
متن کاملOn the Role of Chaos in the AdS/CFT Connection
The question of how infalling matter in a pure state forms a Schwarzschild black hole that appears to be at non-zero temperature is discussed in the context of the AdS/CFT connection. It is argued that the phenomenon of self-thermalization in non-linear (chaotic) systems can be invoked to explain how the boundary theory, initially at zero temperature self thermalizes and acquires a finite tempe...
متن کاملChaotic temperature dependence in a model of spin glasses
We address the problem of chaotic temperature dependence in disordered glassy systems at equilibrium by following states of a random-energy random-entropy model in temperature; of particular interest are the crossings of the free-energies of these states. We find that this model exhibits strong, weak or no temperature chaos depending on the value of an exponent. This allows us to write a genera...
متن کاملTemperature dependence of the magnetostriction and the induced anisotropy in nanocrystalline FeCuNbSiB alloys, and their fluxgate properties
Making use of the stress induced magnetic anisotropy in some iron-rich FeCuh'bSiB nanocrystalline materials we studied the thermal dependence of their magnetostriction which becomes zero below the Curie temperature. The choice of a suitable composition and annealing temperature results in materials with zero magnetostriction at room temperature. Due to the low magnetostriction these materials h...
